Acoustical Silence for Living Next to the Freeway

This business/engineering idea has to do with the nature of sound waves.  I know in some luxury vehicles and headphones the background noise is recorded and analyzed.  The sound waves that go into the system are zeroed out by the headphones/car as sound waves of equal but opposite frequency are created by the sound system.  You could do this for the homes that back up to the freeway.  That way people with those huge retaining walls in their backyard could enjoy a little more quiet.

  1. Great idea! Would those huge retaining walls even be necessary? Those things have to be incredibly expensive. I bet the noise cancellation system you suggest would cost roughly the same as the walls, but without the unsightliness. Imagine living right next to the freeway, seeing the cars drive by, but not being able to hear them - crazy!
